A revolutionary skull cap for jockeys is well down the development track
Darren Beadman was one of many jockeys to try on the new helmet recently which is being lauded by all quarters.
Dr John Saxon, who is heading up the National Health & Safety Review into Thoroughbred Racing, said that new space-age helmet is of top quality and has tremendous potential.
“The prototype has continued to evolve with a great deal of input from the jockeys themselves into all aspects such as the design and further modifications.” Dr Saxon said. “The latest version is the first in the world to actually address the dental and facial side of things; this is an area where therehave been a lot of injuries. There is a lot more protection, especially in the temple area which is obviously vulnerable.” Further testing continues but Dr Saxon added that many of the riders, who were skeptical at first, have become advocates after trying the helmet on. -
